Well, it's been a long time since I posted to this blog. In the spirit of the new year, my plan is to turn this neglect around! What better way to do this than with my #onelittleword.
This is the third year that I've chosen one word to be my focus for a new year. My 2014 word was "breathe" and for 2015 it was "connect". For 2016, I've chosen the word "present", as in to be present - not to give more presents. It's taken me three days to decide on this word. I tossed around "service" and "patience", but eventually decided that "present" is the word for me.
To be present is important for me in every aspect of my life - at home, at school, with my family and friends, and in yoga. I want to always focus on staying in the moment. There are times that I am distracted by books or laundry or Downton Abbey or life. I'd like to be sure to be present if my daughters need help or advice or if my husband needs to vent about his day. At school, I want to be available for my students both in class or in the hallway or wherever I am needed. I want to also be there for my family and friends and to have time and the energy to help, listen or appreciate them. Finally, I want to maintain a strong presence with my yoga practice. I feel strong and well-balanced when I am fully present on my yoga mat.
"Present" may be a word with several denotations, but for me, it is about focus and staying in the moment in the new year.
